How
to Book a Speaker? FAQ
At SBSB, we do
more than provide you with access to wonderful and
talented speakers.
Here are seven industry points covered to guarantee success when booking
a speaker. We have your best interest at heart.
1. Speaking Fees
Keynote presentations range in length from 30 to 90 minutes depending on
the particular speaker. Fees for longer presentations are typically higher
than for keynotes. Many of the speakers have half-day and full-day fees.
Speaking fees change frequently. For an exact quote ask your program
consultant at SBSB by calling 805-682-7474 or send an email to:

2. Budgeting for a
Speaker
Keep in mind that in addition to the speaking fee, you need to account
for
transportation, lodging and other services such as meals and incidental
expenses, books and learning products, audio-visual equipment, costs for
special handouts et cetera.
3. Travel Expenses
Speaking fees normally do not include travel. Airfare, lodging, meals and
ground transportation are usually in addition to the speaking fee. Some
speakers may require first class or business class travel for crosscountry
and international appearances.
4. Audio and Video
Taping of Appearances
Special written permission must be obtained for the rights to video,
audiotape, broadcast or transmit a speech. Occasionally there will be a
surcharge for obtaining these rights. The surcharge will depend on how
the
tapes will be used.
5. Autograph Sessions,
Receptions, Golf Outing
Many speakers will attend special receptions, play golf or sign books for
no
additional charge while others may require a substantial additional fee.
Since
each speaker has his of her own requirements, it is critical to have all
requirements agreed to in writing at the time of the initial contract.
6. Contracting
It is important to clearly indicate what you would like the speaker to
do prior
to signing a contract for services. When you contract for a speaker to
decliner a keynote speech the contract fee is for this service only, unless
additional services are agreed to in advance and in writing as an addendum
to the contract.
7. Payment Terms
A non-refundable deposit is collected at the time a speaker is booked for
the
event. This deposit guarantees the date. From this point forward, the
speaker will turn down all other offers that conflict with your program.
In the
event of a cancellation by your organization, the deposit will be forfeited.
If a
cancellation occurs within 90 days of the event date, the entire fee shall
be
due. |
