Kathy Smith
Kathy Smith   For 18 years, Kathy Smith's message of health and fitness has improved the quality of life for millions of people around the world. At age 45, Kathy embraces her dream every day: to inspire, motivate, and educate people toward leading a healthy lifestyle. By making fitness so accessible to consumers, it's easy to see how Kathy has become America's Leading Fitness Expert. But it wasn't always easy for Kathy.

By the time she was 20 years old, Kathy had lost both her parents - her father to a sudden heart attack (at age 42) and two years later, her mother to a tragic plane crash, “I had lost everything and my life was in ruins.” Faced with this kind of overwhelming adversity, some might go into permanent mourning or hide behind a wall of depression, but Kathy found solace and satisfaction in exercise. Rather than running away from life and its immense pain, Kathy ran with it. First it was one mile, then five, and in 1975, Kathy eventually found herself finishing the Honolulu Marathon. It was her first race, but definitely not the last. “Through exercise, I found a healthy, positive outlook for myself and I wanted to share it.” After graduating with a business degree from the University of Hawaii, she moved to Los Angeles.

By 1981, Kathy's passion for fitness and her gift for business began to shape her as a visionary and fitness industry leader. In 1981, Kathy created her first product, a fitness record called Aerobic Fitness became a top-seller and two years later a second record, Ultimate Workout, was released, reaching gold and platinum sales levels immediately. Commercial endorsements and a book soon followed, and By 1986, Kathy Smith was a household name. It's no wonder Sports Illustrated said, "Kathy Smith IS Fitness in America!" As a mother of two young girls and as a member of the Board of Directors for the Women's Sports Foundation, she never loses sight of the importance of her family. She participates actively in her daughters' school and education, is a Brownie Troop leader. Kathy was on her way to creating a multi-million dollar fitness empire. Kathy will host 'Healthy For Life', viewed by 50-70 million Americans by the end of next year. As a wife, entrepreneur, health and fitness expert, author, inventor and personality, Kathy Smith is an inspiration who will move us healthfully into the next century.
